STUDENTS KARATE CHOP COMPETITION

8 students from RMA Karate Centres competed at the Karate/Kung Fu Maynia tournament
in Kitchener May 2nd. The Professional Martial Arts Alliance sanctioned event attracted
competitors from across Ontario and the RMA competition team took home 28 awards.

The competition team lead by black belt instructors Craig Ridout, Linda Young and Tressa Young

watched with pride as the karate students gave their personal best.

Orange belt Jacob M continues to improve his competition performance receiving first place in

sparring, fifth place in weapons and fifth place in kata.   Fellow orange belt Felisha C did extremely
well for her first tournament as a competition team member.  The orange belt placed fourth in sparring
and was a finalist in both the kata and weapons division.  Felisha's younger sister Jessica, a green belt
with RMA, also performed well placing first in kata, third in sparring and was a finalist in the weapons
division.

Red belt Brooke Z gave her personal best placing sixth in kata and fifth in both the weapons and
sparring divisions.  Older brother Tyler M-Z, also a red belt at RMA, placed first in weapons,
first in sparring and third in kata.

Purple belt Samantha M continues to improve resulting in her placing first in kata, second in sparring,
fifth in musical forms and fifth in weapons.

Samantha and instructor Tressa Young will be heading to the Canadian national sport karate
team trials this May long weekend in hopes of gaining a spot on the national karate team.   Only the top 3
